St. Jude's foundling home

'Daughters of the sacred heart' is an organisation run by nuns that provides a place to stay for abandoned or orphaned children and babies. The children's home is called 'St Jude's Foundling Home'.

The nuns currently offer care and permanent accommodation for 45 girls. Up to the end of the 80’s, they were still financially supported and they had official adoption rights. They were regarded as a particularly good children's home. During that time they gave a lot of babies and children a chance for a better life in Europe. Due to the declining economy and high costs it was no longer possible to retain the official certificate for adoption.

Now and then children are still adopted by wealthy Indian families, but 95% of the children are not adopted and they remain at the children’s home until they are eighteen. Many Indian families still see girls as a social and financial burden. The financial burden is entirely to do with the dowry. This is actually prohibited by law, but it is still common practice. As a result, there is very often no room for new children - babies who are either given up in the hospital immediately after their birth or found on the rubbish dump.

I would really like to work with you to give these orphaned children a better life, by improving their living conditions and providing them with good care. There are so many ways in which together, we can give these children a better future.
